Islamabad, July 25, 2026: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday warned of increasing flood risks across several parts of Pakistan as ongoing monsoon rains continue to raise water levels in major rivers and seasonal streams.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), medium-level flooding has been recorded at several points along the Chenab River, while flash flood threats remain high in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan over the next 24 to 48 hours.
The authority reported medium-level flooding at Khanki, Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge on the Chenab River, while Palkhu Nala at Wazirabad was also flowing at a medium flood level.
Low-level flooding continues at Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa on the Indus River, Marala and Trimmu on the Chenab River, Balloki and Sidhnai on the Ravi River, and Nowshera on the Kabul River. Similar low flood conditions have also been observed at Nala Aik and Palkhu Nala Cantonment Bridge.
The NDMA said water flows in the Chenab River are expected to increase further during the next 24 hours at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge, while water levels at Trimmu Barrage are also likely to rise to the medium flood category.
The authority warned of possible flash floods in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, seasonal streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of northern Balochistan during the next two days.
Heavy monsoon rains are also expected to increase the risk of urban flooding in Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Multan, Hafizabad and Lahore.
The NDMA advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-affected areas and urged motorists to check weather forecasts and road conditions before undertaking journeys.
It directed all relevant departments to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations, keep emergency response teams on standby and ensure the prompt restoration of roads in the event of closures.
The authority also cautioned that landslides, debris flows and sudden flash floods remain a significant threat in mountainous regions during the monsoon season.
Citizens have been advised not to stop near riverbanks, steep slopes or narrow mountain roads vulnerable to landslides and rockfalls, and to avoid crossing flooded roads, streams or fast-flowing water on foot or in vehicles, warning that even shallow floodwaters can sweep away people and vehicles.
