Rawalpindi, August 1, 2026: The Pakistan Army on Saturday commemorated the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of the People’s Republic of China at the General Headquarters (GHQ), reaffirming the enduring strategic partnership and close military cooperation between Pakistan and China.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong attended the ceremony as the chief guest, accompanied by Major General Wang Zhong, Defence Attaché of China, officials of the Chinese Embassy and senior officers from Pakistan’s tri-services.
Welcoming the distinguished guests, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, congratulated the PLA on its 99th founding anniversary and paid tribute to its contributions to China’s national defence, development and international peace and security.
The army chief described Pakistan-China relations as unique, time-tested and resilient in the face of evolving regional and global challenges. He said the armed forces of both countries remained true partners, bound by mutual trust, unwavering support and a shared commitment to regional peace, stability and the protection of common strategic interests.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed the Pakistan Armed Forces’ commitment to further strengthening defence cooperation with the PLA, underscoring the importance of the longstanding “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between the two countries.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Jiang Zaidong thanked the Pakistan Army for hosting the commemorative event and appreciated the warm hospitality extended to the Chinese delegation.
The Chinese envoy also acknowledged the Pakistan Armed Forces’ sacrifices and contributions in the fight against terrorism and reiterated Beijing’s unwavering support for Pakistan. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to further deepening bilateral defence cooperation and strengthening the enduring strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.
The ceremony reflected the close defence ties and longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China, with senior military and diplomatic officials from both countries reaffirming their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in support of regional peace, security and stability.
