Islamabad, August 15, 2026: President Asif Ali Zardari has announced the conferment of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz on Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Chief Executive Officer Dr Obaidullah in recognition of his outstanding services and achievements in the public sector.
According to the information available, the award was proposed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the federal cabinet in recognition of Dr Obaidullah’s contributions to public service and his role in bringing significant reforms to DRAP.
Since assuming charge as CEO, Dr Obaidullah has overseen a wide-ranging reform process at the drug regulatory authority, which has contributed to improved revenue generation and institutional strengthening.
One of the key achievements during his tenure has been the World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification of the Central Drug Laboratory, an important development that has enhanced the laboratory’s international standing and regulatory capacity.
DRAP was also previously recognised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a Reform Champion Award in acknowledgement of the authority’s reform initiatives.
Dr Obaidullah has also been credited with leading the digitalisation of DRAP, helping transform several regulatory processes through the adoption of digital systems and improved institutional mechanisms.
Despite being credited with these achievements, Dr Obaidullah has consistently attributed the authority’s progress to the collective efforts of his team, according to the report.
The conferment of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz marks national recognition of his contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s drug regulatory framework and advancing reforms in the public sector.
