Rawalpindi, August 18, 2026: Noreen Niazi, sister of incarcerated former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, met him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday after being allowed entry following the Supreme Court’s order permitting weekly meetings between the former premier and his family.

Imran, who has been imprisoned since August 5, 2023, is serving a 14-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case, commonly known as the Al-Qadir Trust case. He was also convicted in the Toshakhana case.

Although the Islamabad High Court had previously allowed him to meet his family, lawyers and other associates twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the PTI founder had been restricted from meeting visitors for several months.

Noreen was allowed to enter the jail on Tuesday and was directed by police to Gate No. 5. Jail sources said she met Imran in the conference room, where they discussed his health and other matters.

Noreen also informed the former premier about the Supreme Court’s order directing authorities to shift him to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a comprehensive medical examination.

Meanwhile, Imran’s other sisters, Aleema Khanum and Dr Uzma Khanum, along with his cousin Qasim Zaman, were stopped at Dahgal Naka, a security checkpoint on Adiala Road, and were not allowed to proceed towards the jail.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Meena Khan and PTI members Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry and Shahid Khattak were also present at the Factory checkpoint, where a heavy police contingent had been deployed.

Imran’s wife, Bushra Bibi, also met members of her family at the jail on Tuesday.

The meeting, held in a conference room, lasted around 40 minutes and was attended by her children Musa and Mubashara Maneka and her sister-in-law Mehrunnisa. Her health and legal matters were discussed during the meeting.

Speaking to the media at the checkpoint, Aleema said the Supreme Court’s decision to send Imran to hospital for a medical examination came after months of demands by the PTI and his family.

“Politics does not trump health,” she said, confirming that Noreen would be allowed to meet Imran. “We are his sisters — we talk about his health.”

Aleema said, however, that the family would not speak to the media after leaving the jail.

She also called for bail for both Imran and Bushra Bibi, arguing that if relief had been granted to the PTI founder, Bushra should also have received similar relief.

Discussing a case registered against her in connection with an October 4, 2024 protest, Aleema said a witness in the case had yet to be cross-examined.

Before entering the jail, Noreen told reporters that she would inform Imran about the Supreme Court’s order regarding his transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

“I will tell him what efforts PTI members have made for him,” she said.

PTI lawyer Advocate Awais Younas Chaudhry said outside the jail that the party now hoped to receive an accurate assessment of Imran’s health.

He said it had been decided that Noreen would not speak to the media after meeting Imran and expressed hope that the former premier would soon be transferred to Shifa International Hospital.

The lawyer also reiterated that no PTI workers or supporters would be allowed to gather outside the hospital in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

“If anyone has reached there, the PTI will disassociate itself from them,” he said, stressing that Imran’s health remained the party’s first priority.

Noreen maintained the decision after leaving the jail and declined to speak to reporters, placing a finger to her lips when questioned by the media.

The three sisters then left the jail premises following the conclusion of the meetings.

The last confirmed meeting between Imran and Dr Uzma Khan took place on December 2, 2025. Following that meeting, Uzma had said that Imran’s physical health was satisfactory but claimed that he was experiencing “mental torture” and remained in isolation.

Imran had previously met Noreen on November 4, 2025.

The PTI and the government have remained engaged in a dispute over the former premier’s medical treatment and access to his family and personal physicians. The opposition has repeatedly accused the government of failing to ensure appropriate treatment and transparency, allegations the government has denied.

Imran’s eye condition, right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), emerged in late January and has been treated through government medical facilities.

His party and family members have repeatedly expressed concern over his health and demanded his transfer to a hospital for comprehensive medical examination and treatment.
