Bulawayo, November 23, 2024-First of three match ODI series between Pakistan Zimbabwe will be played tomorrow (Sunday).

For Pakistan, this series serves as part of their preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, a home tournament where they will defend their title. Fresh off a commanding ODI series win in Australia, Pakistan enters the series under new head coach Aaqib Javed, who emphasized the importance of perfecting their 50-over game. However, key players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah have been rested, while Fakhar Zaman is absent due to disciplinary and fitness concerns. Captain Mohammad Rizwan will lead a slightly revamped squad, with opportunities for Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub to shine in the opening slots.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, is eager to make the most of this opportunity after a quiet year in ODI cricket. Their squad features familiar names like Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, and Blessing Muzarabani—players who have shown resilience and an ability to deliver surprises, as seen in their Super Over win against Pakistan in 2020.

The matches, all scheduled in Bulawayo, promise a relaxed atmosphere with passionate local support, though seasonal rain showers could play spoilsport. As both teams navigate contrasting priorities and challenges, the series offers cricket enthusiasts a chance to enjoy competitive 50-over action in a setting that celebrates the sport’s grassroots charm.
