Rawalpindi, August 29, 2026: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), visited Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) in Wah on Saturday to review the country’s defence production capabilities, export potential and ongoing efforts to strengthen indigenous manufacturing.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit focused on POF’s contribution to Pakistan’s defence industrial base and its role in developing and manufacturing military equipment locally.
During the visit, the army chief was briefed on various aspects of POF’s operations and its efforts to strengthen national defence through indigenous development and production of a diverse range of arms and ammunition.
Field Marshal Munir also witnessed tests and trials of locally designed and manufactured arms and ammunition. The demonstrations highlighted POF’s ongoing efforts to promote technological innovation, enhance self-reliance and expand Pakistan’s domestic defence production capabilities.
The COAS and CDF was also given a detailed overview of progress on the corporatisation process following the enactment of the Defence Industrial Production Reform Act (DIPRA) Ordinance.
Officials further briefed the army chief on ongoing indigenisation and modernisation initiatives at POF, including the installation of two new industrial plants. According to the briefing, the plants are expected to commence production by the end of the current year.
The visit also provided an opportunity to review POF’s potential to expand its contribution to Pakistan’s defence exports and strengthen the country’s broader defence industrial ecosystem.
POF, one of Pakistan’s largest defence manufacturing complexes, plays a central role in meeting the requirements of the armed forces through domestic production of arms, ammunition and related defence equipment.
The visit underscored the military leadership’s emphasis on self-reliance, indigenous defence production, technological advancement and industrial modernisation as key components of Pakistan’s national defence strategy.
