Islamabad, September 18, 2026: Pakistan will go “to any extent” to defend Saudi Arabia against aggression, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, describing Islamabad’s commitment to the Kingdom’s security as “unconditional.”
In an interview with Arab News, the military spokesperson said Pakistan fully stood with Saudi Arabia “both diplomatically and physically”, stressing that the commitment also extended to the protection of Islam’s two holiest sites in Makkah and Madinah.
“We are already there for the protection of Haramain Sharifain and Saudi Arabia,” Lt Gen Chaudhry said, adding that Pakistan would continue to defend the Kingdom against any aggression.
He said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi security stemmed from what he described as a deep-rooted and historic bond between the peoples, political leaderships and militaries of the two countries.
The remarks came amid intensified attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement on Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities said debris from an intercepted drone killed a Yemeni resident in Taif and injured two others, while more than 80 people had been wounded in recent attacks.
The comments also followed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement on August 7, which expanded collective-security cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The full operational provisions of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed.
Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan’s political and military leadership remained in continuous contact with the Saudi leadership and was consulting regional governments to seek a negotiated and peaceful resolution to the wider Middle East crisis.
He also described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Washington and Tehran as a “consensus document” that provided a pathway towards resolving the regional crisis.
Pakistan, he said, continued efforts to bring the parties back to dialogue while seeking common ground despite mistrust and other obstacles.
