Islamabad, September 20, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has departed Islamabad for New York to accompany Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from September 21 to 25.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar will have an extensive programme of diplomatic engagements during his stay in New York, including participation in meetings of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the sidelines of the UNGA.
He will attend the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, where he will reaffirm Pakistan’s support for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people. He will also participate in the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Annual Coordination Meeting and other OIC Contact Group meetings.
Reflecting Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause, the deputy prime minister will attend several high-level meetings on Palestine, including a meeting of the Group of Eight Arab Islamic countries and a High-level Ministerial Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Dar will also deliver a statement at a high-level UN Security Council briefing on artificial intelligence and participate in a High-Level Meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
He will chair the meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers during the UNGA week.
The deputy prime minister will hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts and accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a number of high-level bilateral meetings and engagements.
During his engagements, Dar will highlight Pakistan’s efforts for regional and international peace and stability and exchange views on key regional and global challenges, the Foreign Office said.
