Toronto, September 28, 2026: Pakistani music icon Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has praised Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh for paying tribute to legendary qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by performing “Sanson Ki Mala Pe” during his Aura World Tour.
Rahat, who is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s nephew, said Dosanjh performed the iconic piece with genuine respect and passion and did justice to the song.
Speaking after his concert in Toronto on Sunday, Rahat said even established artists could feel nervous while performing Nusrat’s songs.
“It would be very appropriate to say that even big artists get nervous while performing Khan Sahab’s song, but Diljit has done full justice to the best of his ability, with his heart,” he said.
“We can see and hear it [his efforts] too,” Rahat added.
Dosanjh had earlier spoken about the emotions behind his performance during a live social media session on September 14, saying that performing a Nusrat song was far from easy.
“Nusrat Sahab was a great artist, and singing his song was not easy for anyone. I wanted to try and pay tribute to him; he was a legend,” Dosanjh said.
The tribute came during Dosanjh’s Aura World Tour, where he paid homage to Nusrat and celebrated the legendary qawwal’s enduring musical legacy.
This was not Dosanjh’s first major-stage association with Pakistan. He previously performed alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir during a concert in London.
The two later appeared together in Sardaar Ji 3, marking another prominent cross-border collaboration in Punjabi cinema.
