Islamabad, September 29, 2026: Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has written to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), asking the agency to comply with the Lahore High Court’s recent ruling and return his mobile phone, which has remained in its possession since August 31.

According to the letter, Rizwan said he remained unaware of the specific nature of the investigation and requested the NCCIA to provide written details of the incident or matter being investigated.

He also asked the agency to inform him in writing when he was required to appear before it.

Rizwan’s phone was taken from him in England on August 31, a day after Pakistan’s defeat at Lord’s. He has maintained that he was told the device would be returned within three hours.

The correspondence comes nearly two weeks after the Lahore High Court dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA’s jurisdiction in the matter.

In its ruling, the court directed Rizwan to cooperate with the agency’s proceedings while instructing the NCCIA not to subject him to “harassment or unnecessary inconvenience”. The court also allowed him to approach the relevant court for recovery of items that had not been returned to him, primarily his mobile phone.

In his letter, Rizwan said the NCCIA had not contacted him to demonstrate compliance with the court’s directions. He specifically asked the agency to identify the subject of its inquiry and clarify when his presence was required.

Rizwan also pointed out that he had voluntarily provided access to his phone in the United Kingdom, despite maintaining that he was under no legal obligation to consent to the request. According to the letter, he had shared the phone’s password after being told that the device would be returned within three hours.

He said that around four weeks later, the phone remained with the agency and that the NCCIA had not contacted him to arrange its return.

The letter maintained that Rizwan’s voluntary cooperation and subsequent conduct demonstrated his willingness to cooperate with the inquiry. However, he asked the agency to reciprocate by returning his phone and explaining the nature of the investigation.

The development is part of the NCCIA investigation involving Rizwan and fellow Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq following Pakistan’s defeat in the second Test, after which the two players were among those recalled to Pakistan.

While Imam-ul-Haq opted to complete the questionnaire provided by the agency, Rizwan engaged legal counsel and challenged the NCCIA’s jurisdiction.

Although the Lahore High Court rejected his petition, Rizwan has retained legal representation and asked the NCCIA to communicate with him in writing regarding any matter connected with the investigation.
