London, October 1, 2026: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with Jofra Archer and injured Jos Buttler notable absentees.
Archer was part of England’s squad that secured a 2-1 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka at home last month. However, the right-arm pacer managed only one wicket during the series.
Buttler will also miss the tri-series after sustaining a hamstring injury during England’s second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley.
England will welcome back experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid and all-rounder Sam Curran, who have recovered from their respective injuries.
Selector Marcus North described the tri-series as an important opportunity for England’s ODI squad, while saying Archer had been rested as part of workload management.
“The tri-series in Pakistan provides another valuable opportunity for our ODI squad to test themselves against quality opposition in different conditions,” North said.
“Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad following their respective injuries while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer.”
Glamorgan leg-spinner Mason Crane has received his maiden ODI call-up, eight years after making his only Test appearance against Australia during the 2018 Ashes.
England have also retained emerging all-rounder James Coles, 22, and 21-year-old pacer Henry Crocombe in the squad.
England will begin their tri-series campaign against Pakistan on October 20 in Rawalpindi. The tournament, which runs from October 18 to 31, will feature Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka and will serve as part of the teams’ preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
The series will conclude with a final between the top two teams.
England squad: Harry Brook (c), Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue.
