Lahore, October 4, 2026: Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait has reached an agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take up the role of bowling consultant, according to Pakistani media reports citing sources.
The PCB is expected to formally announce Tait’s appointment soon. The former pacer is likely to arrive in Pakistan early next week to assume his responsibilities.
Tait, 43, previously served as Pakistan’s full-time bowling coach and is familiar with the national team’s pace-bowling setup.
He took charge as Pakistan’s bowling coach ahead of Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan in March 2022 and remained in the position until the conclusion of the home series against New Zealand in January 2023.
Tait had initially signed a one-year contract with the PCB, but his agreement was not renewed after organisational changes within the board following the completion of the contracted period.
The former Australia international most recently worked with Bangladesh’s fast-bowling unit before stepping down from the role earlier this year.
During his stint with Bangladesh, Tait had expressed concerns about the demands of working as a permanent bowling coach across all three formats. He indicated a preference for a consultancy role, prompting the PCB to approach him for the position, sources said.
While stepping down as Bangladesh’s bowling coach, Tait said that the demands of year-round red- and white-ball cricket had made a full-time role challenging and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Tait is expected to meet PCB officials after arriving in Pakistan to complete the remaining contractual formalities before formally assuming responsibility for the national team’s pace attack.
His appointment comes ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, comprising T20Is and Tests, as well as an ODI tri-series featuring England. The PCB is seeking to strengthen the national team’s fast-bowling resources ahead of its upcoming international assignments.
