Islamabad, October 5, 2026: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will undertake an official visit to Pakistan from October 6 to 8 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.
During the visit, the UN secretary-general will hold meetings with Pakistan’s leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Guterres will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The UN chief will have other engagements during his visit, where Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen multilateralism, international peace and security, disaster preparedness and early warning systems will be highlighted, according to the Foreign Office.
The visit will provide an opportunity to reaffirm Pakistan’s longstanding cooperation with the United Nations and exchange views on regional and international developments.
It will also provide an opportunity to acknowledge Guterres’ leadership and contributions to international peace and development.
The Foreign Office said the visit reflected Pakistan’s continued support for multilateralism with the United Nations at its core, as well as its commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
