Islamabad, October 5,2026: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Workers (PFUJ Workers) hosted a reception at the National Press Club Islamabad in honour of the newly elected office-bearers of the Video Journalists Association following its 2026 elections.
PFUJ President Dr Sadia Kamal, Nazia Asif, senior journalist and Press Club member Ayesha Naz, PFUJ Workers representative Hanif Khattak, senior journalists Muhammad Faizan, Jawad Malik, Tanvir Hashmi, Ali Niaz, Muqaddas Chaudhry, Ramesha Gul and Fatima Mughal, among other members of the journalist community, attended the event.
PFUJ Workers President Dr Sadia Kamal welcomed the newly elected office-bearers and congratulated them on assuming their new responsibilities. She said a strong and united voice was essential for protecting journalists’ rights, welfare and safety.
The event opened with remarks by Nazia Asif, while Fatima Mughal performed the duties of moderator.
The newly elected office-bearers include President Muhammad Kashif Abbasi, Senior Vice President Rao Zulqarnain, Vice President Anees Khawaja, General Secretary Rizwan Rao, Finance Secretary Khurram Roshan, Senior Joint Secretary Mehboob-ur-Rehman and Joint Secretary Mudassar Rahim.
The governing body members are Faheem Akhtar Raja, Jameel Kiyani, Sajjad Khan, Wajid Hussain Asad, Aneel Ahmed, Muhammad Khakan and Muhammad Atiq.
Addressing the gathering, the newly elected office-bearers pledged to make collective efforts for the rights, dignity, professional concerns and welfare of video journalists more effective and to strengthen unity within the journalist community at every level.
Dr Sadia Kamal said around 3,500 journalists were members of press organisations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, describing the protection of their rights as a major responsibility. She termed video journalists the backbone of the journalist community, saying their role in electronic media was fundamental and highly significant.
Video Journalists Association President Muhammad Kashif Abbasi thanked PFUJ Workers for organising the reception and said the video journalism community would move forward with renewed commitment through unity, teamwork and mutual cooperation. He said video journalists remained on the frontline of news coverage and continued to perform their professional duties responsibly even in difficult and dangerous circumstances.
General Secretary Rizwan Rao said video journalists had always remained on the frontline of journalism and would continue to stand alongside their fellow journalists.
Senior journalist and Press Club member Ayesha Naz highlighted the importance of electronic media and video journalism and urged journalists who had not yet obtained Press Club membership to complete the membership process.
Professional Panel Chairman Zahid paid tribute to Dr Sadia Kamal and the PFUJ Workers team, saying that organising an event to recognise the services of television cameramen and video journalists was a commendable initiative.
At the conclusion of the event, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continued joint efforts for unity, mutual cooperation, professional solidarity, protection of journalists’ rights and their welfare.
