Rawalpindi, October 9, 2026: A 12-year-old girl, Maimoona, who went missing after leaving home to attend a madrassa, was found dead beneath a charpoy in a sitting room reportedly belonging to her maternal uncle in Dhoke Najju, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Rawalpindi, according to reports.
The incident has prompted serious concerns about child safety, while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
According to the reported account, Maimoona left home at around 2 p.m. carrying her Noorani Qaida for her religious lessons but did not return. Her family searched for her, and her father reportedly went from street to street calling her name.
After the girl went missing, a kidnapping case was registered at Pirwadhai Police Station under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Her maternal uncle, identified in reports as Mumraiz, was also reportedly involved in the search. CCTV footage is said to have become an important part of the investigation as police examined the circumstances of her disappearance.
During the inquiry, the girl’s body was reportedly recovered from beneath a charpoy in the sitting room. Reports also stated that a piece of cloth had been stuffed into her mouth.
Police took custody of the body and shifted it to Holy Family Hospital for a post-mortem examination to help establish the cause of death. Authorities were reportedly considering adding Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with murder, to the case.
Further investigation was underway to establish the facts and determine responsibility. Any allegations against individuals involved in the inquiry must be assessed on the basis of evidence and in accordance with the law.
Maimoona’s death has left her family devastated and renewed concerns about the safety of children. The investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy and establish what happened to the young girl.
