Peshawar, November 28, 2024- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced a 10-day ceasefire between rival groups in Kurram district, marking a significant step towards restoring peace in the conflict-hit region.

Briefing on the situation, CM Gandapur called the ceasefire a positive development, emphasizing that dialogue would be the primary approach for achieving lasting peace and resolving conflicts. He noted that damage assessments were underway, and a security plan for safe transportation was being prepared to ensure stability in the region.

The ceasefire follows weeks of violence that claimed 102 lives and left 138 people injured in tribal clashes and attacks on passenger vehicle convoys. A delegation formed by the Chief Minister recently concluded a two-day visit to Kurram to assess the situation and mediate between the parties.

Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Muhammad Ali Saif, revealed that during the visit, the delegation successfully brokered an earlier seven-day ceasefire agreement. This included an understanding on prisoner exchanges and the return of deceased individuals to their families.

CM Gandapur reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering peace in Kurram, underscoring that the recent ceasefire would pave the way for broader reconciliation efforts and sustainable conflict resolution.
