Islamabad, October 19, 2026: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh has described Pakistan’s expected leadership role in the governing boards of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in 2027 as a major achievement in economic diplomacy.
In a statement, Sheikh congratulated Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema on his nomination for the chairmanship of the Boards of Governors of both institutions.
He said Pakistan’s prominent role in international financial institutions could create new opportunities for the national economy, stressing that the country must use this responsibility to promote investment and protect its economic interests.
Sheikh said Pakistan’s leadership role in major global financial institutions in 2027 presented a golden opportunity to strengthen economic diplomacy and improve the country’s international economic standing.
He emphasized the need to make Pakistan’s representation at the IMF and World Bank more effective and use these platforms to strengthen the country’s voice in global financial and economic decision-making.
The FPCCI president said Pakistan should capitalize on this opportunity to restore the confidence of international investors, attract fresh investment, boost exports and expand economic cooperation with other countries.
He added that economic diplomacy must be closely linked with trade and investment promotion to generate new avenues for economic growth.
Sheikh stressed that Pakistan should treat its 2027 responsibility not merely as an honour, but as an opportunity to advance economic development, increase exports and attract investment.
