Islamabad, October 19,2026: Pakistan and the United States have made significant progress on a bilateral trade agreement, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The development came during a high-level meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker in Islamabad. Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ihsan Afzal Khan and Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul also attended the meeting.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, substantial progress has been achieved in negotiations on the proposed bilateral trade agreement, although some minor technical clauses require further discussions with the Office of the US Trade Representative before the process can move forward.

The two sides also discussed expanding market access for Pakistani agricultural products, particularly mangoes and dates from Balochistan. They emphasized the need to expedite inspection visits to facilitate exports to the US market.

In addition, the meeting explored opportunities to increase Pakistan’s imports of US cotton and soybeans, with a view to strengthening agricultural trade and promoting mutually beneficial economic ties.

Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan invited American companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, mining and industrial sectors, highlighting the potential for expanding business partnerships and developing new investment opportunities.

He also encouraged US companies to participate in the upcoming FoodAg 2026 exhibition, scheduled to take place in Karachi from November 23 to 26. The exhibition is expected to provide a platform for business networking, agricultural trade and investment cooperation.

Regional connectivity and mineral cooperation also featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides reviewed opportunities to promote collaboration in mineral resources, develop a skilled workforce and strengthen trade links with Afghanistan and Central Asia.

The importance of maintaining stable overland trade routes was also highlighted as a key factor in facilitating regional commerce and improving economic connectivity.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening institutional engagement, addressing barriers to market access and exploring further avenues for bilateral trade and investment.

The discussions reflect ongoing efforts by Pakistan and the United States to broaden their economic partnership, promote agricultural exports and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
