Islamabad, October 27,2026: The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, along with fellow European Union ambassadors, met Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, to discuss ways to further strengthen EU–Pakistan political and trade relations.
The meeting focused on enhancing political dialogue, expanding economic cooperation and maximising the opportunities offered by the European Union’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) framework. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Ayesha Ali, Director General Europe-I Ishtiak Ahmed Akil and other senior diplomats.
During the discussions, the Romanian ambassador reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to deepening bilateral political relations and economic cooperation with Pakistan. He particularly highlighted the importance of operationalising the agreement between the Port of Constanța in Romania and Karachi Port, which could strengthen trade links, improve connectivity and facilitate greater commercial exchanges between the two countries.
“Building stronger partnerships through dialogue, trade and connectivity is the way forward,” the ambassador said.
Romania remains committed to promoting closer EU–Pakistan engagement and advancing practical initiatives aimed at strengthening political, economic and people-to-people ties between Pakistan, Romania and the wider European Union.
