Islamabad, October 29,2026: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia has called for joint ventures between Pakistani businesses and China’s Wuxi Shengbao Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to promote electric motorcycle manufacturing, localize production and transfer modern technology to Pakistan.
Welcoming a Chinese business delegation led by Yang Zong at the Chamber House on Thursday, Zia said Pakistan had significant potential in the electric two-wheeler market, including electric motorcycles, scooters and bicycles. He urged the company to collaborate with Pakistani entrepreneurs in vehicle assembly, manufacturing, research and development, technology transfer and the gradual localization of components.
He said Pakistan-China economic cooperation should move beyond importing and selling finished products towards sustainable industrial partnerships. Local manufacturing of electric two-wheelers, he added, could reduce reliance on imported vehicles, strengthen domestic supply chains, develop technical expertise and create skilled employment opportunities for young people.
Zia said such partnerships could also help position Pakistan as a manufacturing base for regional and international markets. He assured the delegation that ICCI would facilitate engagement with local manufacturers, investors and relevant government departments to identify potential partners and explore investment opportunities.
He also invited the Chinese company to showcase its electric mobility products at the chamber’s upcoming expo and display centre to enhance market visibility, connect with potential business partners and explore commercial opportunities in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Yang Zong showcased the company’s OPAI brand of two-wheelers and responded to questions about its products and business prospects. He expressed the company’s interest in establishing joint ventures, localizing production and exploring export opportunities from Pakistan.
He highlighted the potential for cooperation in developing local manufacturing capabilities, strengthening supply chains, providing technical training and improving the skills of Pakistani workers.
ICCI Senior Vice President Mohammad Ashfaq Chatha stressed the importance of business-to-business engagement and industrial collaboration for the mutual benefit of Pakistan and China.
The delegation also included Cheng Zong, Qing Zong and Muhammad Arif. ICCI Executive Committee Members Sadaf Asim Abbasi and Nageena Khaleeque, along with Syed Imran Bukhari and chamber members Dr. Shahid Zafar, Mamoon Shafqat, Zafar Shehzad and Asif Javaid, participated in the question-and-answer session.
Prominent attendees included Rashid Tufail and ICCI senior members Waseem Chaudhry and Sajid Iqbal, along with other business representatives.
