PM directs swift evacuation plan for Pakistanis in Syria

Islamabad, December 9, 2024: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed authorities to devise an urgent action plan for the safe evacuation of Pakistanis wishing to return from Syria through neighboring countries.

Chairing a meeting to assess the situation in Syria and discuss the safety of Pakistanis residing there, the prime minister emphasized that all possible measures must be taken to ensure their safe evacuation. He reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of Pakistanis in Syria is the government’s top priority and instructed the use of all available resources to achieve this goal.

The prime minister also directed the Pakistan Embassy in Damascus to set up an information desk and helpline to assist Pakistanis in need. Furthermore, he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Crisis Management Unit and the information desks at Pakistani embassies in Syria and neighboring countries to operate 24/7 until the security situation improves.
