Imran Khan urges overseas Pakistanis to halt remittances: Aleema Khan

Rawalpindi, December 21, 2024 – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has called on overseas Pakistanis to stop sending remittances to the country, as he expressed frustration over the government’s refusal to engage in dialogue with PTI.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail after a meeting with her brother, Aleema Khan relayed that Imran Khan urged overseas Pakistanis to halt remittances starting tomorrow. She also reiterated his demands, including the release of prisoners, the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, and the immediate resumption of talks with the government. She added that Imran Khan would retract his call to halt remittances if discussions with the government were to begin.

This development follows remarks by PTI leader Omar Ayub, who claimed that the government was not genuinely interested in negotiations with PTI. Ayub, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, revealed that the PTI’s negotiation team was denied access to Imran Khan during their visit to Adiala Jail. He stressed that the team was formed to ensure that no one could accuse the party of failing to establish a negotiation channel.

“You have to formally request a meeting in Adiala Jail. Those who visited were facing cases,” Ayub explained.

Aleema Khan also criticized the economic conditions in Pakistan, claiming that millions had fallen below the poverty line since the PTI government was ousted, with citizens facing immense hardships.
