Islamabad, January 2, 2025: Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary to Pakistan, has commended the “Uraan Pakistan” program, an initiative launched by the Government of Pakistan to foster economic growth and national prosperity.

The ambassador expressed his appreciation during a meeting with Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, on Thursday. The two officials discussed areas of mutual interest, including enhanced trade and investment cooperation between Pakistan and Ethiopia.

Ambassador Abdula briefed the minister on the remarkable progress Ethiopia has made under the Prosperity Party, led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He highlighted the party’s reforms in political, economic, and social spheres, which have driven Ethiopia’s consistent economic growth and strengthened its democracy.

The ambassador emphasized Ethiopia’s “Home Grown Economic Reforms,” which have addressed macroeconomic imbalances, boosted domestic production, and attracted significant foreign direct investment (FDI), leading to increased job creation.

“Ethiopia and Pakistan can learn from each other’s experiences and enhance trade and investment relations to foster economic cooperation,” Dr. Abdula remarked.

Dr. Abdula invited Minister Ahsan Iqbal to attend the Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan, scheduled for May 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Minister Iqbal expressed his eagerness to visit Ethiopia and acknowledged the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. He noted key milestones in their relationship, including the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, exchanges of official and business delegations, and the initiation of Ethiopian Airlines operations in Pakistan.

“Ethiopia stands as a success story in Africa, achieving economic transformation through pluralistic policies. It is a beacon of prosperity for the continent,” Minister Iqbal remarked, commending Ethiopia’s achievements.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepening cooperation and exploring opportunities for growth and development between the two countries.
