Kurram, January 5, 2025 – Amid escalating tensions and a worsening law and order situation, Section 144 has been imposed in Kurram district for two months. The move follows a shooting incident in which Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud was critically injured.

A case has been registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station against those involved in the attack. The FIR, filed by Additional SHO Ahmadi Shama, includes charges of terrorism and attempted murder.

Under Section 144, the district administration has banned public displays of weapons, aerial firing, and gatherings of more than five people. Authorities stated that these steps are necessary to prevent unrest and maintain public safety.

The Home Department has also issued a formal notification regarding the enforcement of Section 144 across the district.

In the wake of the incident, Muhammad Ashfaq has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, replacing Javedullah Mehsud. A notification confirming Ashfaq’s appointment was issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Establishment Department.
