Islamabad, January 6, 2025: Tensions between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have deepened, with the PPP deciding to openly criticise government policies, a private news channel reported, citing sources.

According to insiders, the PPP leadership has authorised its members to publicly challenge government decisions, particularly in federal and provincial matters. The party has also issued comprehensive guidelines, urging its leaders to highlight what it deems as the government’s ineffective and flawed policies.

Expressing concern over the potential perception of tacit approval through silence, the PPP leadership has instructed its officials to actively voice opposition to harmful policies. Party sources noted that the leadership fears political fallout if it remains passive, as public discontent over the government’s failures could harm the opposition’s standing.

In response, central and provincial PPP leaders have been tasked with scrutinising the federal government’s strategies and amplifying criticism in public forums. This development marks a significant shift in the party’s approach, moving away from its previously restrained stance toward a more confrontational posture.

The decision comes amid growing political friction and signals an escalating power struggle between two of Pakistan’s major political forces.
