ISLAMABAD, September 24- The government of Pakistan has declared a nationwide public holiday on September 17, in observance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming the holiday.

Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, announced that the moon for the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal was not sighted on Wednesday. As a result, the month will begin on September 6, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) will fall on September 17 (Tuesday). Religious scholars from various schools of thought and meteorological experts participated in the meeting.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is celebrated worldwide on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
