Rawalpindi, January 19, 2025 – Five terrorists belonging to the banned group Fitna Al Khawarij were killed during an infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the general area of Sambaza, Zhob district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the night of January 18-19, as security forces successfully thwarted the attempt. “Pakistan has consistently been asking the interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border,” the ISPR stated.

The military’s media wing added that the interim Afghan government is expected to fulfill its obligations and “deny the use of Afghan soil by Khawarij for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan.”

The statement reiterated: “Security forces of Pakistan remain committed to securing its borders and eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country.”

Earlier this week, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir highlighted the challenges posed by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from Afghan soil during a meeting with political leaders in Peshawar. He identified cross-border attacks and the presence of banned groups as major contributors to strained ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The army chief also revealed that Pakistan has requested a “friendly country” to engage with the interim Afghan government to address these concerns, as confirmed by Qaumi Watan Party leader Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao during a recent interview.
