Islamabad, January 24, 2025: PTI MNA Junaid Akbar has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after receiving support from government members for the crucial post.

The election, overseen by National Assembly Special Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed, took place during a PAC meeting once the quorum was met. All members present raised their hands in favor of Junaid Akbar, demonstrating unanimous support.

Junaid Akbar’s nomination was put forward by PML-N’s Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and was seconded by prominent figures, including PML-N Senator Afnanullah Khan, Rana Qasim Noon, Wajeeha Qamar, and Sardar Muhammad Yusuf. Additionally, opposition member Umar Ayub also endorsed Akbar’s candidacy, securing his unopposed victory.

Earlier, PTI had proposed five candidates for the government’s consideration. The shortlisted names included MNA Omar Ayub, MNA Junaid Akbar Khan, MNA Amir Dogar, MNA Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, and MNA Adil Khan Bazai.

With his unanimous election, Junaid Akbar takes on the pivotal role of leading the PAC, a key body tasked with ensuring financial accountability and transparency in public spending.
