Multan, January 25, 2025: West Indies spinners Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican delivered match-defining performances to bowl out Pakistan for 154 on the opening day of the second Test on Saturday.

Warrican claimed 4-43, with Motie and Kemar Roach contributing three and two wickets respectively, helping the visitors secure a narrow nine-run lead in the first innings.

Mohammad Rizwan fought valiantly for Pakistan with a top score of 49, supported by Saud Shakeel’s 32. The pair added 68 runs for the fifth wicket, steadying Pakistan’s innings at 119 before Shakeel fell to a sharp catch by Roach. Rizwan’s dismissal—stumped off Warrican’s bowling—left Pakistan vulnerable, and the rest of the lineup crumbled.

Sajid Khan remained unbeaten on 16, but no other batter could make a notable contribution as Pakistan was bowled out for 154.

Earlier in the day, West Indies were bowled out for 163, with left-arm spinner Noman Ali taking 6-50, including a historic hat-trick.

After losing Mikyle Louis (4) to Kashif Ali and Amir Jangoo to Sajid Khan, West Indies’ middle order collapsed under pressure from Noman’s hat-trick, leaving them in dire straits at 38-7.

However, the tailenders mounted a spirited recovery. Motie led the fightback with a brilliant 55, adding 41 runs for the ninth wicket with Roach (25). He then combined with Warrican for a game-changing 68-run last-wicket stand. Warrican remained unbeaten on 36, frustrating Pakistan’s bowlers before Noman ended the innings by dismissing Motie.

In reply, Pakistan’s top order faltered. Roach removed Mohammad Huraira (9) early, while Motie bowled Babar Azam (1). Roach then sent back skipper Shan Masood (15), reducing Pakistan to 25-3.

Kamran Ghulam’s brief knock of 16 steadied the innings temporarily, but his dismissal to Motie deepened the crisis. Rizwan and Shakeel provided some resistance, ensuring no further damage before the Tea interval.

After Tea, Warrican and Motie tightened their grip on the game. Rizwan’s stumping marked a turning point, and the lower order collapsed under relentless pressure from the spinners.

Squads:
Pakistan XI: Shan Masood (c), Mohammad Huraira, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Salman Ali Agha, Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, Kashif Ali, Abrar Ahmed.
West Indies XI: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Mikyle Louis, Amir Jangoo, Kavem Hodge, Alick Athanaze, Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach (wk), Kevin Sinclair, Jomel Warrican, Gudakesh Motie, Kemar Roach.
