Kashmiris observe Indian Republic Day as black day

Islamabad, January 26, 2025: Kashmiris across the globe, including both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), are observing India’s Republic Day as Black Day to protest New Delhi’s continued denial of their United Nations-recognized right to self-determination.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and other pro-freedom organizations called for protests and demonstrations to mark the occasion.

A complete shutdown was observed in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), while anti-India rallies were held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and major cities worldwide. The demonstrations aim to draw international attention to India’s occupation of Kashmir and its alleged violations of human rights.

The protests convey a strong message to the global community: that India, as an occupier of Kashmiri rights, lacks the moral and legal authority to celebrate its Republic Day in the disputed territory.

In IIOJK, posters condemning India’s occupation and urging the United Nations to uphold its commitment to a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir appeared across Srinagar and other areas. Displayed by Hurriyat organizations, these posters carried slogans such as: “Indian Republic Day is a Black Day for Kashmiris” and “UN must act to deliver justice to Kashmir.”

The posters also featured images of jailed Hurriyat leaders, highlighting the ongoing repression, arbitrary detentions, and human rights abuses faced by the region’s residents under Indian rule.

The observance of Black Day underscores the Kashmiris’ demand for the resolution of the longstanding dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. The protests aim to press the global community to act decisively to ensure justice and self-determination for the Kashmiri people.
