Kabul, February 11, 2025: A suicide bombing outside a bank in northern Afghanistan killed five people, including members of the Taliban security forces, on Tuesday, according to police reports.

The blast, which also injured seven others, occurred in a queue of people waiting to collect their salaries at a bank in Kunduz, the capital of Kunduz province.

Jumadin Khaksar, a police spokesperson for Kunduz, confirmed that the attacker detonated improvised explosive devices. The victims included civilians, civil servants, and Taliban security personnel.

“The Kunduz Province Police Command is collaborating with relevant authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible for this attack,” Khaksar stated.

In a similar attack in March last year, a suicide bomber killed at least three people in an explosion outside a bank in Kandahar, which was later claimed by Daesh’s regional affiliate.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s bombing. While the frequency of bombings and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has decreased since the Taliban took control in August 2021, several armed groups, including Daesh, continue to pose a threat.
