Kurram, February 17, 2025: A convoy carrying essential commodities was attacked and looted by unidentified assailants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kurram on Monday, sources confirmed.

The convoy, comprising around 40 vehicles, was en route from Thal to Parachinar when the attack occurred. In response, paramilitary forces launched counter-fire from a helicopter targeting the attackers. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants ambushed the convoy from seven different locations.

Assistant Commissioner Syed Ihsan Ali Shah stated that none of the 113 vehicles that had departed from Thal have returned as of yet. “Currently, 17 to 18 vehicles are stalled in Thal,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir noted that the convoy included more than 129 freight vehicles carrying vital food supplies. The district administration had reportedly put in place “stringent security measures” to prevent such incidents along the route before the convoy’s departure.

Meanwhile, efforts continue to dismantle the bunkers of conflicting parties under the Kohat peace agreement aimed at maintaining peace in Kurram. So far, 117 bunkers have been demolished in Lower Kurram’s Balash Khel and Khar Kali areas, while 66 bunkers have been removed in Upper Kurram’s Piwar and Teri Mengal villages. In total, 183 bunkers have been destroyed across the district.

The deputy commissioner reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring the “full implementation” of the peace agreement and emphasized that all remaining bunkers would be demolished to foster stability in the region.
