Peshawar, February 20, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to rename the historic Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar in honor of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approved the renaming, and the provincial sports ministry has prepared a summary for final approval in the upcoming cabinet meeting on Friday.

A government spokesperson confirmed that alongside the name change, renovation and beautification work is underway to upgrade the stadium’s infrastructure.

Arbab Niaz Stadium, one of Pakistan’s historic cricket venues, was originally named after Arbab Niaz, a former mayor of Peshawar and federal minister.

No PSL 10 matches at Peshawar

Meanwhile, a final decision has been made not to hold matches of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Peshawar.

According to sources, most franchises have refused to play PSL matches in Peshawar, citing concerns over the safety of foreign players and coaches. They believe PSL matches in the city should be considered only after successfully hosting domestic and international games first.

Sources further revealed that a meeting between franchise owners and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was held via video link to discuss the matter.
