Baku, February 24, 2025:Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has expressed his intent to visit Islamabad in April to formalize $2 billion in investment projects in Pakistan. The announcement came during his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Baku on Monday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit, made at President Aliyev’s invitation, highlights the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. Upon arrival at Zugulba Palace, he was warmly received and presented with a guard of honor by Azerbaijan’s armed forces.
In a one-on-one meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their strategic partnership and expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation. Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Azerbaijan’s $2 billion investment commitment, first announced during Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan in July 2024, and discussed potential investment projects.
The talks continued at the delegation level, where key ministers and officials from both sides explored opportunities for deeper collaboration.
Both leaders emphasized the need to expand bilateral trade, acknowledging that the current trade volume does not reflect the full economic potential of their strong political ties. They agreed to explore joint investment projects in energy, infrastructure, and connectivity to strengthen economic collaboration.
Additionally, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation at multilateral forums, including the United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Azerbaijan for its unwavering support on the Kashmir issue, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as outlined in UN Security Council resolutions.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Azerbaijan on Karabakh, praising President Aliyev’s leadership in reclaiming the region, which is recognized as Azerbaijani territory under UN resolutions and international law.
Following the discussions, Shehbaz Sharif and Ilham Aliyev witnessed the signing of multiple agreements and MoUs aimed at strengthening cooperation in various sectors.
