Islamabad, February 28, 2025: Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, as both nations seek to expand their strategic partnership.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and a six-member Russian delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin in Islamabad on Friday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to strengthen ties with Russia, particularly in diplomacy, trade, and investment.

“Pakistan is keen to deepen its coordination with Russia across multiple sectors, especially energy, which holds immense potential for both countries,” he stated.

The prime minister also recalled his productive discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana. He reiterated his invitation to President Putin to visit Pakistan, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration.

Deputy Minister Pavel Sorokin expressed Russia’s strong interest in expanding cooperation in energy, a key area of mutual benefit. He also thanked the Government of Pakistan for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to fostering long-term economic and strategic relations with Islamabad.

With both nations exploring avenues for greater collaboration, the meeting marks another step towards strengthening Pakistan-Russia ties, paving the way for enhanced energy partnerships and economic development.
