Islamabad, March 1, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan once and for all, declaring that the nation will “bury this curse forever” and prevent its resurgence.

Addressing an event in Islamabad on Saturday, he strongly condemned the suicide bombing in Akora Khattak, which claimed the life of Maulana Hamidul Haq along with several others. Terming the attack a heinous act, the Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized the significance of Jamia Haqqania, a center for both Islamic and modern education, and urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take swift action against those responsible.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s counterterrorism achievements, PM Shehbaz noted that by 2018, terrorism had been largely eradicated, thanks to the sacrifices of over 80,000 Pakistanis, including members of the armed forces, police, and law enforcement agencies. While acknowledging the recent resurgence of terrorism, he assured the nation that Pakistan’s security forces remain fully prepared to eliminate this threat permanently.

The Prime Minister also addressed economic challenges, highlighting the government’s efforts to recover billions of rupees in pending revenue. He recalled that during the currency surge in 2022 and 2023, banks made significant windfall profits, prompting the government to impose a windfall tax. However, legal hurdles delayed the collection of these funds.

Praising the Governor of the State Bank, PM Shehbaz announced that after the Sindh High Court lifted the stay order, the government successfully recovered Rs23 billion from banks and deposited it into the national treasury.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to national security and economic stability, PM Shehbaz vowed to continue decisive actions against terrorism while ensuring economic reforms that strengthen Pakistan’s financial future.
