Washington, March 9, 2025: The U.S. Secret Service shot an armed man outside the White House early Sunday following a confrontation, according to an official statement.
Authorities had received a tip-off from local police about a “suicidal individual” reportedly traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C. Secret Service officers later encountered a man matching the description, who allegedly brandished a firearm, prompting the shooting.
The suspect was transported to a hospital, where his condition remains unknown.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time, as he was spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
“The individual brandished a firearm as officers approached, leading to an armed confrontation during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the Secret Service stated.
The incident is now under investigation by Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department, which is responsible for reviewing all law enforcement shootings in the District of Columbia.
