Islamabad, March 14, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against sugar hoarders and profiteers responsible for creating an artificial shortage and driving up prices.

Chairing a review meeting on sugar supply and pricing, the prime minister emphasized that the government would not tolerate speculation or hoarding aimed at manipulating market rates. He instructed officials to launch a crackdown against those involved and present a detailed report on the actions taken.

Sharif stressed that sugar stocks in the country are sufficient, and any attempt to create an artificial crisis will be dealt with according to the law. He ordered strict monitoring of sugar supply and demand and directed officials to maintain regular contact with sugar mills to ensure stability in prices.

In light of Ramazan, the prime minister reaffirmed that no “sugar mafia” would be allowed to exploit the public. He instructed the chief secretaries of all four provinces to ensure sugar is available at government-fixed rates.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Special Assistant to the PM Haroon Akhtar, along with other senior officials. The chief secretaries of all provinces participated via video link.

Officials provided a detailed briefing on the current sugar supply, demand, and pricing trends.
