London, March 19, 2025: The United Kingdom (UK) government has officially declared Hassan Nawaz, son of PML-N President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a tax defaulter after failing to pay £9.4 million in taxes.
The UK tax authorities updated the defaulters’ list on the government’s official website, citing non-payment of taxes between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016. In addition to the unpaid amount, a £5.2 million penalty has been imposed on Hassan Nawaz.
Legal experts note that while Hassan Nawaz was declared bankrupt a few months ago, UK law does not waive tax fraud fines, meaning authorities may still recover the penalty despite his financial status.
There has been no response from Hassan Nawaz’s legal representatives regarding the matter.
Last year, an Islamabad accountability court acquitted Hassan and Hussain Nawaz in the Avenfield, Flagship, and Al-Azizia references.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced the reserved verdict, clearing both brothers of corruption charges. Earlier, the court had granted them bail after they surrendered before the accountability court.
