Islamabad, March 21, 2025: The federal government has approved a significant increase in the salaries and allowances of cabinet members, with federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers receiving hikes of up to 188%.

A summary of the pay raises was circulated and approved by the federal ministers, amending the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975 to formalize the salary increments.

Under the new adjustments, the monthly salary for federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers has been raised to Rs519,000. Previously, federal ministers earned Rs200,000, while ministers of state received Rs180,000.

  • Federal Ministers: 159% increase (Rs200,000 → Rs519,000)
  • Ministers of State & Advisers: 188% increase (Rs180,000 → Rs519,000)

This increase follows a January 2025 decision by the Finance Committee, which raised the monthly salaries of MNAs and senators to Rs519,000, effective January 1, 2025. However, the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly remain unchanged at Rs218,000 per month, as the Finance Committee lacks authority over their pay structure.

A proposal to align lawmakers’ salaries with those of a federal secretary was also submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The National Assembly Finance Committee, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, approved the recommendation and forwarded it to the PM for final approval.
