Islamabad, March 29, 2025 – The World Bank has approved a $300 million loan for Pakistan to support the Punjab Clean Air Programme, an initiative aimed at combating air pollution and improving public health in the province.

According to the World Bank’s statement, the funding will help mitigate smog, particularly in urban centers, marking a significant step toward improving the well-being of millions of residents.

“Cleaner air will lead to a significant reduction in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases,” said the World Bank’s Country Director, highlighting the health benefits of the program.

The Punjab Clean Air Programme is a key part of the World Bank’s new Country Partnership Framework for Pakistan and is expected to benefit around 13 million people in the Lahore Division by addressing pollution sources and implementing long-term air quality improvements.
