Islamabad, October 27,2026: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Punjab Emir Dr. Tariq Saleem has described October 27 as a Black Day in Kashmir’s history, saying the arrival of Indian forces in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, marked a turning point in the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom and self-determination.

In a statement issued on Kashmir Black Day, Dr. Saleem said that nearly eight decades later, the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir continued to face restrictions on their fundamental rights and political freedoms.

He expressed concern over reported human rights violations, the detention of political leaders and activists, and restrictions on freedom of expression. He said the observance served as a reminder that the Kashmir dispute remained unresolved and required sustained attention from the international community and the United Nations.

Dr. Saleem said India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, which changed Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status, had further increased uncertainty and insecurity in the region. He maintained that lasting peace could not be achieved without involving the Kashmiri people in decisions concerning their political future and rights.

Paying tribute to the sacrifices of Kashmiri men and women, he said their continued resolve despite hardships and restrictions reflected their aspirations for freedom and self-determination.

The JI Punjab emir urged the international community to take effective measures to protect human rights, address concerns over detentions and support a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

He said a just and lasting settlement of the Kashmir dispute was essential for peace and stability in South Asia.

Dr. Saleem reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue to support the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He also paid tribute to those who had lost their lives in the conflict and expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir on behalf of the Pakistani nation.
