Haripur, April 6, 2025: A passenger boat carrying approximately 80 people, including women and children, has been stranded in the mudflats of Tarbela Lake near Haripur for the past three hours, prompting an urgent rescue operation.
According to initial reports, the boat was en route from the remote village of Bet Gali in Tehsil Ghazi, Haripur, to the city when it got stuck in the shallow waters of the Indus River near the Chandni Chowk area of Tarbela Lake.
Sources indicate that the boat became stranded due to a significant drop in water levels in the lake, which caused it to get lodged in a muddy section. In the absence of immediate rescue support, passengers and locals began attempting to free the boat on their own.
Meanwhile, local authorities have launched a formal rescue operation under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Hamza Abbas to safely evacuate the passengers.
Emergency teams are currently on-site, working to extract the boat and ensure the safety of all on board. No injuries have been reported so far, but the situation remains tense due to the prolonged wait and limited access to resources.
Further updates are expected as the rescue operation progresses.
