Muzaffarabad, May 2, 2025: In response to rising tensions between Pakistan and India following a recent deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have instructed residents near the Line of Control (LoC) to stockpile essential food supplies.

Speaking in the AJK Legislative Assembly on Friday, Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq announced that directives had been issued to ensure a two-month reserve of food supplies in all 13 constituencies situated along the LoC. The move comes amid growing concerns over the potential for conflict in the wake of tit-for-tat diplomatic actions taken by both countries.

To support the emergency preparedness plan, the AJK government has established a Rs1 billion emergency fund aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted provision of food, medicine, and other basic necessities in the border constituencies. The Prime Minister also stated that both government and private machinery were being mobilized to maintain road connectivity in the strategically sensitive areas.

The situation deteriorated after the Pahalgam incident in IIOJK last month, which triggered a series of diplomatic expulsions and border closures, fueling fears of further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Amid the growing unease, authorities also announced the temporary closure of over 1,000 religious schools across AJK for a period of 10 days, as a precautionary measure against potential security threats.
