Islamabad, May 12, 2025: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has instructed party MNA Junaid Akbar to step down as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), party sources confirmed on Monday.

The directive, insiders say, was conveyed in writing by Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, to senior party leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja. The message asked Akbar to vacate the PAC post and dedicate his efforts to party mobilisation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), especially ahead of a series of scheduled rallies and conventions.

Akbar currently serves as PTI’s provincial president for KP, a region viewed as strategically critical for the party’s political resurgence.

Party sources also indicated that Omar Ayub is expected to be appointed as the new PAC chairman. Ayub, who already leads PTI’s federal parliamentary wing, has played a key role in legislative affairs and internal coordination at the federal level.

In a brief response to the development, Junaid Akbar said he would comply with party leadership once formally asked. “The moment Imran Khan asks me, I will resign from the PAC chairmanship,” he stated.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja declined to comment in detail, saying only that the matter was “internal and under discussion.”

The expected reshuffle comes amid PTI’s broader efforts to consolidate party ranks and boost its street-level campaign in key regions.
