Islamabad, July 1, 2025: Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relationship by enhancing cultural cooperation and fostering people-to-people connections.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia, and Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb Khichi, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture. Mr. Asad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division, was also present.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy and highlighted the launch of Ethiopian Airlines operations in Karachi, which he described as a strategic milestone in connecting Pakistan with Africa and the global community.

During the meeting, the Ambassador introduced the “Medemer” philosophy of Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed — a framework for national unity, inter-generational dialogue, and inclusive development. He noted that Prime Minister Abiy has authored three books on the concept, including Generation Medemer, which was unveiled in Pakistan in 2023 and added to the National Library of Pakistan earlier this year.

Dr. Jemal presented a copy of Generation Medemer to Minister Khichi, who welcomed the philosophy and announced that Pakistan would translate the book into Urdu, the national language, to make it more accessible to local audiences.

Minister Khichi expressed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cultural ties with Ethiopia and praised the Ambassador’s practical proposals for collaboration in heritage and cultural exchange. He assured full support in initiating formal processes to expand bilateral engagement in the cultural domain.
