Islamabad, July 9, 2025: Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Shazia Marri has strongly rejected rumors suggesting that President Asif Ali Zardari is considering resignation, calling the speculation “fabricated, baseless, and politically motivated.”

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Marri asserted that President Zardari remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities, actively engaged in ensuring political stability and upholding democratic principles.

“There is no truth whatsoever in the claims circulating in certain quarters,” Marri said. “President Zardari is not only fulfilling his duties but doing so with a renewed commitment to the country’s democratic future.”

She reminded the public of Zardari’s longstanding political resilience, citing his sacrifices during military rule, imprisonment, and political persecution.

“History bears witness—he faced dictators, endured jail, and still emerged as a symbol of resilience and democracy,” she noted.

The remarks come in response to opposition-driven rumors suggesting that Zardari may step down due to health or political pressures. Marri dismissed these as attempts to distract from pressing national issues, accusing opponents of spreading disinformation to destabilize the political structure.

“The PPP has never abandoned the battlefield in times of adversity,” she said. “Our leadership has stood tall in every crisis, and President Zardari embodies that same unwavering political spirit.”

According to party insiders, the timing of these rumors—amid major economic decisions and judicial reforms—indicates a deliberate effort to divert public attention and create uncertainty within the political landscape.

Marri also criticized sections of the media for irresponsible reporting, urging journalists to verify claims before publishing and calling on media houses to uphold professional standards.

President Zardari is seen as a key stabilizing force in the country’s current political climate. His experience and stature have enabled him to bridge divides among rival factions and maintain crucial channels of communication at the national level.

Observers note that in the face of ongoing economic pressures, judicial challenges, and political tension, Zardari’s strategic and measured leadership has become increasingly vital.
“Any disruption in his role—especially through baseless rumors—could lead to greater instability,” political analysts warn.

Public response has been mixed. PPP supporters have rallied behind Zardari on social media, praising his leadership, while some commentators point to the suspicious timing of the rumors.

Despite the noise, the Presidency has issued no formal statement, signaling that the rumors lack credibility and do not warrant official attention. Meanwhile, PPP leaders plan to hold public engagements and events in the coming weeks to reaffirm their commitment to the Constitution and the democratic process.
