Karachi, July 23, 2025: In a notable shift, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) virtually, Indian media reported on Wednesday. The meeting, scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, will be presided over by Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and current President of the ACC.
According to reports, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla will represent the board via video link, while a delegation from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is expected to arrive in Dhaka later tonight.
The development marks a significant turnaround in BCCI’s earlier stance. Alongside Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Oman Cricket, the BCCI had reportedly opposed Dhaka as the venue for the AGM. Despite these objections, the ACC retained the venue, citing its alignment with the ongoing Pakistan-Bangladesh T20I series, which has brought many council representatives to the Bangladeshi capital.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi has already arrived in Dhaka, where he was cordially received by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan. A formal dinner will be hosted later today in honour of officials and dignitaries attending the event.
Crucially, the fate of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September, is expected to be a central point of discussion during the meeting. However, the tournament’s future remains uncertain amid rising political tensions and alleged internal lobbying within the ACC.
According to well-placed sources, the BCCI is reportedly making deliberate efforts to derail the Asia Cup, a move that could potentially cost the PCB over PKR 1.25 billion in projected revenues. These efforts are also being interpreted as an attempt to undermine Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership within the council.
The outcome of Thursday’s meeting could prove pivotal for both the regional cricket calendar and the power dynamics within the ACC.
