Islamabad, July 28, 2025: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, stating that Pakistan is extending all possible diplomatic and legal support in the case.

Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, Tarar clarified that recent comments by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar regarding Dr Aafia’s case were misinterpreted and taken out of context. He highlighted that Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr Aafia, had recently met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the matter.

The minister disclosed that a legal committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Minister for Law and Justice to intensify efforts for Dr Aafia’s release. “Rarely have such extensive efforts been made for Dr Aafia’s case as are currently underway,” he said.

In response to a question, Tarar strongly refuted claims by former finance minister Miftah Ismail, asserting that Ishaq Dar is not a member of the Sugar Advisory Board, and accused Miftah of misrepresenting facts on the matter.

Turning to the digital economy, the minister noted that Pakistan is the only country in the region with a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrency, and expressed optimism about the sector’s future. “Pakistan has strong potential for growth in this area,” he added.
