Multan Test: Pakistan in trouble at 152-6 against England

Multan, October 10, 2024 – Pakistan’s cricket team finds itself in a tough spot against England in the ongoing Multan Test. By the end of play on day four, Pakistan managed to score 152 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their second innings, still trailing England by 115 runs.

England had earlier declared their first innings at a mammoth 823 for 7 wickets. Pakistan’s second innings started poorly, with Abdullah Shafique dismissed for a duck on the very first ball. Other key batsmen also failed to make a significant impact. Shan Masood scored 11, captain Babar Azam was dismissed for 5, Saim Ayub contributed 25, Mohammad Rizwan 10, and Saud Shakeel added 29 before losing his wicket.

For England, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse each claimed two wickets, while Chris Woakes and Jack Leach took one wicket apiece.

Earlier in the day, England declared their innings after posting 823 runs, securing a solid lead over Pakistan. Joe Root completed his sixth double century, scoring a magnificent 262. England’s innings saw significant contributions from Harry Brook, who top-scored with 317 runs. Root’s dismissal came with England’s total at 703, and the team continued to pile on runs, losing their fifth wicket at 779, their sixth at 797, and their seventh at 799.

On the bowling front for Pakistan, Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah took two wickets each, while Agha Salman, Shaheen Afridi, and Aamir Jamal picked up one wicket each.

At the close of the third day, England had amassed 492 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in response to Pakistan’s first innings total of 556.
